The Aberdeen Lions were happy to have Captain Jeremiah Johnson visit the club this past meeting, August 27th, 2015. Capt. Johnson is part of the our fantastic Aberdeen Fire Department. Capt. Johnson told the club about EMS response times, being involved with disasters across the country and about the department's increasing strain as Aberdeen continues to grow. With the upcoming anniversary of September 11, the Aberdeen Lions want to recognize all the brave first responders of Aberdeen and across the country for their selfless work to keep us all safe. Thank you!
The Aberdeen Lions Club held its annual banquet to induct the new officers for the upcoming year and to present our scholarship recipients their awards. It was held June 11, 2015 at the Postmaster's House in Aberdeen and was a covered dish. The club was very proud to have awarded four $500 scholarships to four very deserving graduating high school seniors. The club also managed to fit in a new member induction, welcome to Mark Jessup! Thank you to the award recipients, their families and all the Lions that made the night enjoyable.
The Aberdeen Lions was pleased to host Nancy Smith and Phillip Perry of K2 Solutions to share info about their service dog program. Joining Nancy and Phillip was Rosy, a black lab that Phillip is currently fostering. K2 is looking for volunteers to foster these dogs for a few weeks to a year to help socialize them. After they are trained and socialized the dogs will then be donated to returning members of the Armed Forces. If you're interested in applying to foster a dog you can visit K2 Solutions' website (http://kcanine.com/service-and-therapy-dogs/) to fill out an application. Thanks again to Nancy, Phillip and Rosy for speaking to the club!

Hungry yet? If 14 hours over charcoal and hickory doesn't make your mouth water, I don't know what will. The Aberdeen Lions Club is doing something different this year; we're cooking our own food! Come on down to Aberdeen Lake between 11 AM - 6 PM on March 19th to get either a plate of this delicious BBQ or BBQ chicken. Plates are $8 a piece and are served with coleslaw, bake beans and a roll. All proceeds benefit the Aberdeen Lions Club mission to serve this community.

The Aberdeen Lions were pleased to have guest speaker Lindsay Johnson of The Shield at last Thursday's meeting. Lindsay is the station manager and on morning on air host of The Shield. The Shield is a local station based in the Sandhills broadcasting in Aberdeen and into surrounding towns and in operation since February, though it was a multiyear process to get everything in place it takes to run a radio station. On air during the day is a mix of contemporary Christian music and teaching. Sunday morning has sermons from many different churches. The Aberdeen Lions were invited to record PSA whenever the occasion arises (like next month's BBQ). Our thanks again to Lindsay and Lion PB for stopping by to talk about the station! Click on the pic above to visit their site and listen online.
The Pinebluff Lions are having their fall BBQ this coming September 27th. Put it on your calendars (it's on ours!) and go grab a plate. Let me give a huge personal recommendation for the plate, everything on it is delicious!
Our club welcomed its newest member Sara Wallace today. While today marks the first official day of her Lionhood, Sara has been a huge part of the club through helping coordinate our 75th anniversary banquet as well as providing her skills as a seamstress. Sara joins two members of her family in the club: Her husband Lion Frank Wallace and her son Lion Jonathan Wallace. We're grateful that she's decided to take the plunge and continue serving her community through the Aberdeen Lions!
